Microsoft has developed an enhanced search engine called “MSN Live Search”, which launched in September, is meant to eventually replace MSN Search to become Microsoft's flagship Web search engine! There are plenty of advertisements throughout the web and the print, discussing the features, usability and success of MSN live Search. A great deal of effort has gone into building a useful and intuitive search technology and innovative features that make Windows live Search unique, such as the engine's image search, local search, and mapping tools.!
An advertisement of MSN Live Search reads as follows
"Before we begin, let us state the obvious. We're late to the game. We admit it. But instead of shrugging our shoulders and becoming a footnote in search history, we've decided to write a few new chapters."
In addition, MSN live Search has a scrollbar that reveals as many as 1000 search results on one page, at one time. A 'slider' has been provided to adjust the size of image thumbnails, which is useful for focusing in on images. Another useful feature for Live.com users is the option to subscribe to feeds by clicking on the “Feeds” tab. Additional tabs such as the “news” tab and the “Local” tab, provide options to extend one's search and view search results in the best contextual format. Another new feature is Search Macros that shall enable people to create custom searches across set parameters. New and updated tools are also available, including search history, clock, notepad, Live Favorites, stock quotes, weather and MSN Infopane. Windows live also includes tabbed browsing, pop-up blocking, RSS detection and automatic aggregation to a user's personalized Live.com home page.
MSN live Search is definitely an improvement over MSN Search. The look is clean, the functionality is enhanced and the novel features are a delight! Msn live Search will “help people better visualize and connect to the information they care about," says Adam Sohn, Microsoft's Director of Global Sales & Marketing PR. MSN live is all set to be the best, however time will decide its stature as a Search Engine! |
