Google Total is the new feature added
by Google. It is the service that integrates all kinds of different Google services – like Google Images, Google Scholar, and Google Maps – into one page (by using a select-box). On a side-note, the page is hosted on Google’s own Blogspot. This page is a creation by Anil Wadghule, a final year Computer Enginering student form Pune University, Pune, India
It is the interface that contains 26 Google services and integrates them into two simple drop-down boxes- mean, all the tools in one place. It is made to imitate a google homepage with all the most exclusive options for Google in one page This new logo of Google has been designed keeping in line with Google's tradition of embracing local culture.
Google Total offers you user-friendly drop-down search options that lets you select some of Google's services without
the need to do another click and get transferred to yet another page where you have to do another click. For example, if you're a normal user of the real Google, and you want to map something, you'd take the extra step of typing in the special maps.google.com URL, or clicking on "More"...now you don't have to. Isn’t this GREAT!!! Although yet , it is in it’s BETA stage.
It is a Blogspot blog provided with one text box and a drop down menu in the centre of the page, allowing you to search the web, Images, Groups, News, Froogle, Local, Video, News, Maps, Print, Glossary, Scholar, Catalogues, Answers, Ride Finder and the Weather. The upper right hand corner has a drop down menu as well. From here you can shoot over to “gmail”, your Google Account page, Search History, Alerts, My Groups, your Froogle List, the Help Centre, and the login/out page.
Google Desktop Beta doesn’t just help you search your
computer; it also helps you gather new information from the
web with Sidebar, a new desktop feature that shows you your new email, weather and stock information, personalized news
and RSS/Atom feeds, and more. Sidebar is personalized automatically, without any
manual configuration required It also has extended Outlook integration, so you
can search Google Desktop with the Outlook Toolbar and see results within
Outlook itself.
Features of new google desktop are : a customizable "Sidebar" interface for easier results, email integration and offline Gmail searching , More API support, Better encryption and QuickFind .
How does the Google’s vertical search categories facilitates user-friendly search options?
Google Total does with two dropdown boxes what the main Google page provides with various text tabs. Google has made its most popular options available on the home page, with a link to "more >>" provided as an option to find the rest.
The Google Total page goes back to some basic HTML and JavaScript principles to pull off its presentation. The familiar Google search box rests in the middle of the page. A user can select from 16 options in a dropdown box to its right to specify which part of Google will be searched with the query. The top right of the Google Total page displays a second JavaScript powered dropdown box.
The 16 options in the center so provided will help the a common man to search for anything and everything whether it be searching something from the All over the Web, or Images, News, Maps, Videos, Glossary, and lots more. Google probably won't change its navigation, but Google Total does make for an interesting Google homepage option.
